Thread: Manuwatu/Rangitikei rifle range?

Hey All,
I'm going to be in Rangitikei for the next few weeks.
I thought there would surely be a low key public range in the area but a cursary google has turned up zip.
Anyone know more than google?

In the early 90s there was a range of sorts in the Ruahines on the walk to Heritage lodge/Iron gate hut.
I have no idea if it's still there, was basically just a clearing in the bush, there might have been a picnic table type bench at one end.

There was a full bore range at Cheltenham that I would expect is still there, but I don't know if it's open to the public.

Cheltenham is still definitely open. Unsure of the days its open etc, but managed to get in there to check the zero on a rifle before a hunt out that way.

What about the range st Tutira..?? Go over the bridge at Palmy head out towards Akoture but hang a right at top of hill..? It’s being a while since I’ve being out there.

another vote for cheltenham

great bunch of guys, and a fantastic sheltered range out to 600

Cheltenham is Not just a turn up anytime range. The club shoots there every Saturday.
The range on the way to Heritage Lodge is not maintained anymore.
I think you have to be a member to use the RR&G range now.

Well,not many options.that surprises me.
Does everyone sight their rifle in in the hills on doc land or on a mates farm?
