What's everyone's thoughts on multigun vs 3gun? I kinda like shooting stages with just one gun.
Yep, shotgun doesn't interest me in the slightest, even pistols don't do anything for me.

Then just shoot service rifle? Or someone start a "practical rifle" sport.

I didn't like 3gun shotgun at first, cos it's kinda a reloading race, but smashing poppers with a 12ga is actually quite fun

If you don't like pistols you're doing it wrong

e: ^^ just run IPSC rifle comps

I like some of the shoots the yanks put on.
Transitioning from one to the other is a military skill set.
    Any type shooting is fun.
    Wouldn't worry me either way.
    Keen to have a go.

Grabbing rifle/shotgun from barrel = military??

I'd be more into it if you had the choice & problem solving for stage - Ie drop slung rifle and transition to pistol, or reload rifle? etc. As opposed to predetermined "throw rifle in barrel, grab shotgun from different barrel"

I thought it was a big no no with weapon transitions under pistol NZ? (Like shooting a rifle, dropping it on its sling, draw pistol, engage). Too paramilitary looking and safety concerns or some shit.

What a sad state of affairs.

Is there anyone doing run-n-gun rifle shooting currently? I like the idea of handguns, but pistol license is not at the top of my list right now.

I dont think multigun is something you want any noobs doing that turn up to the range to have a look. You have to have your wits about you and i reckon it appeals to those already relatively competant with ipsc or 3gun in its base format.

You dont drop your rifle while slung after already shooting it and transition to pistol or whatever. Big danger of breaking the 180 with a potentialy loaded, out of control and unsafe gun hanging off your body. We dont holster a pistol after its been used, it goes on the table in either a chamber empty or chamber loaded, safety on condition, this goes for all firearm types, when you are using 3 guns in one stage and 2 of them are going to be shot and then abandoned then safety comes first!!!! Just remember that the guns are not cleared until after the stage is finished. You dont want firearms hanging off your body like fucking rambo, especialy after its been used, we as RO's can only do so much to ensure everythings safe during a stage. That is why they are put in a bin or on a table out of reach after use.

I love multigun, we do alot of it, but i can see the potential for fuck ups if its not run correctly and well policed to some extent.

As for problem solving.. well youve never shot a decent multigun/ipsc match in your life or you wouldnt have mentioned such a thing. No shooters at our matches rarely shoot the stage the same. Some that are weak in shotgun will use the pistol to clean up plates and those strong in rifle may use that to clean up the pistol/rifle targets.

Multigun is a thinking game on multiple levels.

I didn't say anything about drums.
When you transition from rifle or shotgun to sidearm in the military your primary is still loaded.
Doubt any sanctioned civilian shooting would allow that

To do that kind of shooting everybody on the line needs to have their shit together big time. I tried running a skirmish line type shoot, where everybody advances together and engages at marked distances, as service rifle is shot in Canada. It was a total cluster fuck, some people just didn't have the muscle memory or the attention span to keep up with the switched on shooters. I'm confident it would run fine with experienced SR shooters.

I don't think there is a service rifle shoot in Northland, up at the local pistol range I heard they're quite anti any ARs or 3gun type shooting, too many old guys running it who're unwilling to change with the times.

Seems to be a pretty common theme in clubs around the country.

Sad to hear it. Some people just can't move with the times.
I spose we are lucky our club has a great mix of shooters. 3 gun and action are popular with the older fellas as well.

Club started out as CAS but we now have a mix of people that shoot everything.
And getting new members every day.

yeah I doubt it too. drums are a multi gun thing - dump pistol in one, grab shotgun from another etc
