    I think I am a bit rusty.

After a bit of a rush racing a few km up a local river and right on last light I seen 2 hinds and a yearling at the top of a big clearing around 300 yards from where I entered it.
Made what I thought was a perfect stalk to take the yearling and before I got close enough a series of barks back from where I started, spooked them.
To top it off, a bit dejected I cut thru the middle of the clearing to head further up river to another spot before light was gone and another yearling scared the shit out of me when I almost stood on it in the bull rushes and gorse. I got a bead on it for a second but had a bit of a mare with using a gay turn bolt, the set trigger and not having a round chambered.

Other than that it was a good evening
I reckon the animals just starting to use the clearings due to having a bit of mild weather lately, as there was a total lack of sign where there is usually plenty.

Classic You might have to get down to the range for a bit of action shooting but leave the pistol at home...aye

True. But I need just as much practice with the pistol to be fair.

NI shoot next weekend and I haven't done anything.

Bit of an easterly here so not surprising.
    Awesome mild day otherwise.

Might bomb up some 40's and get off my lazy ass and do some practice. I certainly need it.

Sounds like an action packed stalk on the deer, hope your next encounter bloods the little KHornet.

Didn't know I had to go right now?
It's only lunchtime. And it only take 20 mins max from my door to where I park the wagon.

I will admit I am struggling to get used to it.
Haven't turned a bolt apart from the odd time shooting someone else's rifle for 20yrs.

Set trigger is a pain at the moment as well.
    I have a plan tho......

You can adjust the front trigger to be dedicated and remove the rear, from memory.
For a few years my only rifle was a Steyr Mannlicher in poo seventy , twin triggers & rotary mag. Once I took 5 quick shots at a running chamois buck, when the smoke cleared, my mate said I had set the trigger each time. I had know idea I'd done it, just subconscious I guess from use. Chamois had 3 holes in it too
