    Old Service Rifle Events Canterbury

Hi all, having recently jumped on the overpriced ww2 milsurp bandwagon (SMLE 303). I was wondering if there are any clubs that shoot or has events with old military rifles in canterbury? Google searches don't come up with a lot. I saw on the New Zealand Service Rifle Association website there was some mention of a "club in canterbury holding regular service rifle shoots" but it was not more specific than that. I have seen the trenchfoot events etc but dont have the spare cash to go flying around the country.

    Thanks,

    Hi

Frank (frank@3ws.nz or frank@bdfkinetics.com) will regularly host service rifle shoot at West Melton Rifle Range almost every month. I suggest you contact Frank and get your name registered in the email list for the next event. The last one was on 19 May.

Arms club has a shoot. It's the Sunday following the last Thursday of the month at the handloaders range. The guns being shot vary depending on the event, but they aren't going to be fussed if you bring a 303

Come to the club meeting the last Thursday of the month starting 7pm, meet some people, and they'll get you lined up for the shoot.

The 7pm thursday club meeting location is about to change to the Vintage Car Club at Cutler Park just down from the handloaders range.

I have an old .303, it's been checked out by a gunsmith but I need rounds for it. What's best to buy....the old Greek rounds being sold by GC or more modern rounds?.

I bought a range to start off with. Have tried 150gr PPU, 180gr PPU and the Greek stuff. So far the 180gr PPU clearly shoots tighter groups than the others. If you are hunting dont use the greek stuff as its not soft point. The greek stuff does make me a bit nervous, apparently hang fires and squib rounds do happen with them sometimes. I will be reloading and the PPU brass seems quite good so I will shoot factory PPU for a while before using the brass to reload.
