One eye for the rugby for most down here. Both shut for that from me.

Both open for everything, had it drummed into me so hard as a young fella by my smallbore coach that I could probably not change now even if I wanted to

Well why both open? This bullshit started when I was a youngster, makes no diff to me, and I shoot fairly well. Only a shotgun with both open , because you don't sight a shotgun,it's a bit more complicated than that.

    Why close one?

If,as you say, it makes no difference (I assume you refer to your accuracy) then having the wider field of view that both open gives has to be an advantage.
If you have a eye shut, and then open it,it has to adjust to the light-and your brain does take time to adjust as well.during this time you probably move as well.
By having both eyes open you just change your focus, I find that this happens without me thinking. The crosshairs just appear when I want them.

At the end of the day if someone was shooting with one closed I don't think it's worth them relearning how to do things. But if I was teaching someone how to shoot(poor hypothetical bastards), I would get them to try both eyes open.

Always both open, on a red dot scope try closing the front lens cap and you'll be surprised that it makes little difference, dot still appears where it should.

Both all the time for me.
Particularly handy for high magnification when finding the target and spotting differences in wind change.

Do you use your fore finger or middle finger to pull the trigger? I think it's more important

I am a bit 'special'.. I am right handed but left eye dominant, and cannot close my left eye (on its own) so have to shoot left handed... both eyes open...

I used to shoot right handed but once I realised that I was trying to look down the scope with my left eye I did much better by just changing hands... does feel awkward using the left hand and I wish I had learnt my weakness earlier.

    I would agree with that..
The old man always taught us to the bird finger and not the index.
That way you are pointing at what your shootn at..and ya cant miss something ur pointing at. its a smoother joint 2.
just not a good plan with a revolver..

I dont think it matters myself. You could shoot with both eyes shut pulling the trigger with a string tied to your dick holding the gun in your feet. If your hitting the target does it matter what eye is shut or what finger pulled the trigger?
