I think Nick said you could bring a 20mm but only if he got to fire it too.

Looks great, really hope the event works out well, and we get to see lots of photos!
Non-magnum out to a mile! My itty-bitty 260Rem is struggling for puff past about 1300m. I wouldn't mind doing a winter event in the snow either. I am already booked into attend the November Alpine Long Range match though - will have to see if my recreational budget can handle two trips down south in a matter of months.

Sorry @BRADS the Toby shoot is more of a social day than a competition - and as I am a relatively anti-social person that enjoys competition you can see why I would choose to attend the Alpine Long Range match instead. Its a pity those two shoots fell on the same weekend. The last social long range day here in Taranaki I basically didn't shoot at all - I spotted for a few people on the longer targets and offered some coaching but didn't shoot. I enjoyed the day all the same but wouldn't specifically travel all the way down south to do that.
I see Vince is talking about the biathlon again this year - he has yet to set the date though...

There is only one stage pushing out to the extreme. It will be a big target
@Cowboy06
We'll see about this Sparrowhawk match. It is only 9 stages / 60 rounds spread over 2 days. With 8:30am briefings on the range and only 30 competitors I would expect an early finish on both days. I am not worried about the mile with my .260Rem as I have shot this sort of distance before. As long as the match is set up to reliably score shots at these sort of distances it is all fine. They have a pretty cool location though and that just about justifies the trip in itself.
Might work out if I tie it in with something else while down there.

yeah hopefully closer to 80 than 60.
Days are short mid winter the sun goes quick out there. Aim is to be finished by lunchtime on Sunday so can calculate and have prize giving and people can head home. We’re making some trophy’s for 1st 2nd 3rd.
I just bought 4 magnetospeed T1000 hit indicators off Shane so we might use them. We’ve also got some of Stu’s flashers.
Last match at alpine we only got done 70-75 of the 80 round match.
We will have 3 shooting areas, 3 squads and 1/2 day of shooting at each area.
Should be good. Will have the new spinner up and going then too.
Be good to see you out ther Simon.
Hey just a wee clarification.
The match is non mag to 1000m
Magnum to 1600.
The mile for non mag is a side stage that nick has achievement dog tags for. Need to be hit twice out of 5
Same for the 2km with the magnum.
But is separate from the main competition.
Hope that makes things less scary. I realize some scopes and rifles don’t stretch that far. You can bring a separate 338 or 50 to shoot the 2km if you are shooting non mag etc.
Yep, a mile is a loooong way for a non-magnum. Last time I shot it I think I dialled 15MIL and a bit then held another 10MIL on the reticle! Even small wind variations were adding a MIL of windage left or right....
Still lining up plans to make it to this match - looking good at the moment though. I should probably contact Nick and get him to reserve me a spot...
Might try and get a winter tahr hunt in while down there. Just do up a load for my 260Rem with some 129gr LR Accubonds - might drag the old man down as well as he has been keen on a winter tahr skin for ages.
