Shot my pig a couple of months ago using a 308,18 inch barrel.Hornady 150gr ssts went thru the sholders broad side at about a 100yds.308 zeroed at a 100yds.100lb bore fell over, giving a couple of wiggles n dead.Bullet went thru the engine room busting sholders n heart. At 30yds my bullet should be near 3/4" below line of sight of scope and giving out 2450 ft/lbs of energy.
You heard a thump,yr pig lying not far away.

ok so I did same with whopping 6" between barrel and scope,as can be seen at 30 yards would still be a solid shot even if low...so possibly a heart /double lung base...piggy wiggy in deep shit and wont be going far. 165grn poly tip=NBT/sierra?/vmax maybe...all 3 would put world of hurt on at that range.
75/15/10 black powder matters
This is what you are looking for, piggy like this.I was using a thermal clip on,no zeroing.Just use day scope cross hairs.
Had something similar couple of weeks back
Spooked a pig on the bush track maybe 40m but no more away from me. Ass on, not a massive pig, just a nice eating and carrying size.
Didnt want the ass end shot.
Big soft round nose 8mm do the meat no favours.
As he was trotting away he stopped and just turned his head a little bit for a look. Thought this was it and tried to hit the neck area. Pig fell over but rolled to the side down the bank. Nothing on the track, no blood, no noise of any ki d from the pig.
Climbed down past the manual slash on the side of the bank which is where I thought he would be but wasnt into the scrub below.
Quite open so suggest theyve been in there a bit
Couldnt spot any tracks at all either.found one small patch of blood 20m down the bank and that was it. Spent quite a while looking for something else but nada.
Considering how that same projectile performed (very soft) on the spiker 3 hours later I didn't reckon I hit much of importance.
Maybe I was wrong although i did have a memory that it the sight mark was half way up the head/neck.
If I had the same shot again I would aim slightly higher and err on the body side.
Dont get many animal too so probably just about missed it
Whether you missed or not is academic , it is possible to miss at any distance . The act of yanking/pulling on the trigger can take you of target more than you think and an incorrect hold can add even more grief , in the heat of the moment anything can happen but the biggest lesson is to give a through check for any sign/s of either a hit or miss .
It's a bitch when you miss but the thing is to learn from your mistakes and realise you have more time than you think and less than you want i.e Do not panic shoot .
