I made some changes to a rifle a while ago and fitted a new stock with a limbsaver, and a different suppressor. The result was a significant reduction in recoil. But with three different variables it’s hard to know how much of a role the limbsaver played. My gut feeling is that 50% of the recoil reduction can be attributed to the limbsaver and 50% to the stock. I doubt that switching from a gunworks to a dpt had any real effect on recoil (the GW should arguably be better as it’s heavier)

Ken Henderson uses pachmeyer recoil pads, very light but the limbsaver on my A7 made a huge difference.

Thanks for the replies. I've ordered a Microcell pad as I've had good experience with them in the past. I'll fit it when it arrives and report back for anyone who may be interested.

Maybe just a tad. I blame my parents. Thank goodness neither of them are on here! This place would go to pieces.

The pad arrived over the weekend. I forgot how light and resilient they are. Something to note though is that although the pad is black, the 5mm of hard plate that mates with the stock is actually brown!

    Photos of the process.

The first photo is the pad sunk into a bed of plaster so it could be held while the hard backing plate was rebated with a router to fit inside the stock cavity.

Should have made it clear that the photos are Dazzs' rifle, and he did the work fitting the pad.
My only involvement was to add a little class to the process.

I've now had time to spend at the range shooting with the Microcell pad fitted.
Something I hadn't mentioned in my original post was the fact that the rear of my stock was formed at quite an angle to the axis of the barrel, that is to say, not 90 degrees. As part of fitting the new pad I reshaped the stock so the rear of the pad is now perpendicular to the barrel. I also removed material from the bottom of the butt end in the hope this would transfer recoil to the top to help reduce muzzle lift.
    The result is:
    - The felt recoil is much the same as with the old R3.
    - Muzzle lift is noticeably less, if I had to quantify it, I'd say maybe 70% less.
    - Sideways movement of the rifle under recoil is significantly less.
So needless to say, I'm extremely happy with the outcome.
