    Unimpressed by Optima Can...

First shots out of the R8 6.5x47 today. Started with the can on, quiet enough, but hardly a group, ugly as. Took it off and looked for strikes but couldn’t see any. Under good light though, noticed ghastly tool chatter marks around the crown of the final baffle, and what looks like dings or chips around the circumference. Since the anodising is missing, I wonder if this might have been done by the previous owner. Trip to the toolmaker in order I think, get it cleaned up.

Three shots touching without the can, so the rifle is well capable.

Bugger, I just ordered one. Out of self interest I'm hoping it's something in the set up on that one. The ones I've looked at wer all well finished and free of any tooling marks (CNC). Might be worth looking at how their quick twist threaded adapter is sitting on the barrel and that it's square. If whoever did the barrel thread muffed it everything could be out from there forward from the adapter on - I think that makes sense ?

@bing, I expect the barrel thread was ex Blaser factory. I’m reasonably confident it’s that rework and damage that’s been done on the exit port that’s the major contributor. I’ll get that fixed up before I use it again.

I’m sure you’ll be okay with a factory new one, once you get your load synched with the nodes. You might be lucky and it’s bang on from the get go.

    Far out that's a tech'y looking stock.

I reckon that rear mono pod/ground support is a bloody good idea

Best wishes, hope you get it all sorted !!

@kukuwai, it’s a GRS stock, they are Norwegian. Their web site has an extensive list of actions they manufacture specialist stocks for.
