Something to note when looking at docmaps website.
If you select open hunting areas the prohibited areas are red.
If you select "open hunting areas" and "public conservation land"
The prohibited areas become brown like in the first photo showing "open hunting areas". Be careful not to select both and end up hunting a prohibited area.
Basically without getting into all he ins and outs.
You are allowed to sight in a rifle on doc land say if you are checking during a hunt or you droped your rifle, but letting off 10 rounds up the river bed is a nono.
All ranges have to be certified by the police now and inspected regularly.

Reloaders or NCDA have ranges just behind Chch airport a couple of ks.Cost a lot less for a hr or 2 than driveing all the way out to L Lyndon.And you get to keep yr FAL.
I got interviewed(referee) for a renewal of somebody elses fal last week.
They said the police will come down hard on anyone who abuses the rigth to have a fal.
Jings, there is always the Ashburton Range if you need to zero, think they got out to 600m too. You can get hold of the range officer for shooting anytime you need.
