What's wrong with humble pie? Having someone kick you reasonably out of the comfort zone is a very effective way of learning. Just making mistakes without understanding why does the opposite.
I would suggest to start shooting without your Kestrels and leave ballistic computers in the study room. Stick to the basic and free handout I've given and you'll see the pattern for mountain shooting soon enough.
