Good on your grandad for keeping them in good order, and for passing them on. Quite special. Nothing like shooting them too, just get them check first. Multiple knowledgeable people around to help you do that (see above). Thanks for posting them up
Thanks Zimmer, much appreciated
Cool, thanks very much for the info! Much appreciated
Barrel looks to be in good condition. Hasn't had a round through it for 40 years. I will get it checked out by an expert then fire a round through it. I managed to order 10 rounds on trademe. Looking forward to it!
Check how they are loaded and with what, did you get them thru Gunworks?

Magnum imports NZ. Based in upper hut and is called the gunshop.
Shit your trusting my cousin???? make sure your barrels clean to start, and clean the barrel extremely well when to get it home, hot soapy water poured down the barrel with soften and allow you to remove the residue. Mop out well and when it's CLEAN,oil it up! Check it once a month if yr not using it

Ive got one from the same batch, The last order of 2200 rifles in .577 for new Zealand , most were returned to the armoury in England about 1890, These were originaly manufactured as breech loading sniders, not converted from muzzle loading muskets and they have the improved breech lock and a steel barrel,(as long as all numbers match.)
I shoot mine regularly and they are great fun. my wife loves to shoot it too so dont be put off by the myth they kick like a mule.
I load 75grains FFG with a 490grain hb bullet. 1 felt and 1 card wad and the bullet base filled with lube,
If you want your cases filled up after youve had a play 0212702922,
Cheers Dave
