I have never hunted around Welly Dougie. I have hunted around the front of lake Wairarapa but I think it was on private land. I have spent a while doing waro in the Ruahine's. I have never seen so many deer in such a small area. They are in piss easy areas to hunt as well. I could give you some areas to have a look.
Most would say a .22 is a bit light for goats but it is all I had when I was young fella and I shot plenty with one. I still get the odd deer with my .22 when I am out and about.

Sounds awesome, I'd appreciate it. I think I'd need someone to come with me though as I'm not sure what to do with a goat once I got one! I've mastered gutting and skinning a rabbit but what state does the butcher expect the goat in, or is it easy enough for me to just take what I want and leave the rest?

Sorry Dougie, the only goats I chase now are the Himalayan ones. If you ever get down the West Coast way I could show you were to get out for a deer or cham. There should be a Welly member keen to show you the ropes. Hang around a while and you will get some offers.

I told you guys, the best form of advertising is walking around the supermarket in my pink gummies and blaze NZHS beanie.

Yeh it is definitely the Dougie effect that is bringing them in. I guess it may be hard for you to live with Dougie but you will just have to get used to the fact your marketing campaign has worked.
