    Hello from UK

Hi all, was referred here by Mathias and thought I'd join to be in touch with more people with similar interests. I'm lucky to hunt mostly Roe deer and the odd Sika here in NE Scotland. My favourite rifle is a Sako 75 in 6x45 shooting 62gr GS Custom bullets. I'm still trying to perfect a carbon fibre stock for my Sako! I read 'The Sika Hunters' by Alex Gale last year and really enjoyed it. I'd love to visit NZ some day.

    Thanks for having me.

Hi Rory, welcome aboard. You had better post some pictures of that fine piece of equipment in the gun porn section. Go the 6x45

Cheers, Hope you're getting some deer this summer!

My rifle is already looking a bit used and abused but will try to sort out some pics.

Gday mate, I was in Scotland just this year, caught up with a bloke from another forum and did a hunt with him. Saw a few roe bucks but couldn't manage to get one. Next time aye.

Beautiful place though and lovely people.

Bavarian Hunter, look me up if you're in Scotland again and need a place to stay.

What have you been smoking Scouser? The South Island is not at all like Scotland! For a kick off I don't struggle to understand most South Islanders.

What's the public land situation in the uk? Are there big forests where you just walk on with a permit and shoot whatever or is it a ballot or pay to play on some toffee nosed landed persons estate?

There's not really public land to hunt on in the UK, unless you consider the vast swathes of Forestry commission land. The public can bid on forestry commission contracts but it's not cheap and works out on average £100 per deer and DSC level 2, first aid, quad bike certificates etc all required - with all the hassle involved this is more like a job than a hobby.

I get my little bit of stalking free from local landowners that are happy for deer numbers to be kept in check. Lots of people pay for stalking also.
