    Hi from North Canterbury

    Hi
I’m new here, have been reading the forum for a week now and finding it fascinating. Have had my FAL for about 8 years, want to go hunting... but so far just shot some bunnies on our North Canterbury lifestyle block. Did buy a bolt action 7.62x39 when the wife wasn’t looking 7ish years back. I know, shoot deer only at close range, but wanted something in case I go hunting, but also not too powerful till I know what I'm doing and feel more comfortable with something better. Anyway will keep browsing and learning. For sale page and good deals to TM page in the forum are great, so many things I want to get.
Apologies in advance for dumb questions 😊

    Hi
Was thinking that, then I read up about 7mm08 and 243 (which there was a nice one for $750, think I was too slow and missed it already) so torn between those calibers. But, have time as have nothing planned.

both the 7-08 and the 243 are necked down 308's
both will shoot a little flatter but there is far more ammunition choices in 308, i used one for years until i discovered the 7mm Rem Mag

Get stuck in, lots to be learnt here for sure!

And beware of the potential depletion of your disposable income when scanning the Buy, Sell and Trade forum...

i have the opposite problem, everytime i come home with a new gun the wife claims it as hers ! (especially if its a lever action)

we did archery till i did my shoulder in so single shot wouldnt bother her.
she also shoots my 44mag rossi so i dont thing 45/70 would phase her. she did flinch a little on the 7mmRM.

i still think 308 would be a good starter for this guy though, massive amount of ammo around from small and fast to big and slow
