    Hi Smidey, I'm also from Whangarei. Im out Ruatangata way. I have done a few trips into the Tangihuas and always seen plenty of goats on the northern faces in the northern part of the block. You can quite often spot them from the track into the hut from the north eastern access. You could also try the Houto Scenic reserve there have been plenty of goats around there also, I have found them to be better eating than the ones form the Tangihuas, alot fatter. Also join the big bore rifle club out at kauri mountain since you are out that way, great way to learn how your rifle shoots.

    thanks rusty. yeah i drilled some goats up the kirikopuni valley last summer and intend to go for a walk up there again. That time it was in the pine forest before the houto reserve though so i'll be keen to check that out as well.
