    Greetings Pestilence,
Welcome. I don't know what type of pestilence you aspire to but you certainly have stirred up a Hornets nest. In apology for my esteemed colleagues having hijacked your post I offer a bit of history which may keep the noise down for all of three or perhaps four seconds.
My Great Grandfather was appointed Clerk Interpreter to the Wanganui Magistrates Court in 1943. He, aged almost 19 and his slightly older brother had arrived in what is now Wellington early in 1840. At the time of his appointment the squabble over the H in Wanganui was well under way. He knew that Whanganui as in Te Whanganui a Tara (now Wellington Harbour) and Wanganui both meant great harbour. The only difference was how they were pronounced, the first with a soft f and the second with a w. How did he solve this conundrum you ask. It appears he had a bob each way and used both. It appears that 178 years later there is still disagreement.
I look forward to posts from you in the future.
    Regards Grandpamac.

    Greetings All,
A typo in the above. My great grandfathers appointment was in 1843. He arrived with the survey parties in late 1840.
    Regards Grandpamac.
