First of all this isn't Greyhound coursing so you don't need to catch the Hare!! A good lurcher & I mean a good one will work the field for you and pick up the scent and that's it you're on, they don't live in Warrens or Burrows like Rabbits as they lie in a small hollow on the top of the ground called a "Form". If you're good enough you can squeak them in to you like a fox or even walk them, where you can get right on top of them. The fact that they don't live in the ground makes them easier to find. Then there's the hard part and that's having a dog that is fast enough to catch one And don't think a Greyhound is the answer because it isn't . If you had a great Greyhound it might get 1 and if it's a long race it's burnt out afterwards but a good Lurcher will just go all day, and if you ever do it make sure it's the right way. One dog one Hare! Oh by the way too "In the movie Snatch they didn't catch the hare to release they'd have been poaching and if you've ever met a Pikey before you know full well that a hare wouldn't be caught to be released again"!! it would be eaten before it got away!!ha ha lol

Where's the sport in shooting a Hare? Rabbits perhaps but shooting a good hare is a waste of good sporting material in my eyes & they've been shooting them for years so what's unique about it ha ha

Matt, A good mate has just bred some Lurchers for me. As you know there's no breeding stock over here so they won't be world beaters but should course. The breeding line from these pups I'll probably put to a Greyhound or Saluki then that's it job done. You know anyone who'd be interested in pups.

    Cheers
    Topdog
