That would be right @Pengy. Some renters came in next door a few months ago with two cats.
We had several small groups of quail around the area and now nothing. Even the thrushes have gone.

Matsuo Basho.
Quail, Chukar and Pheasants seem to have a distinctive strong smell that cats can track. I watched a cat weaving in and out along a pine hedge on the trail of a hen and cock pheasant. The cat followed it perfectly - nose to the ground like a bloodhound. That pheasant trail was 24 hours old!
But instead of a pot of golden pheasant at the end of the trail there was another metal from further along the periodic table waiting
It will make a mistake at some stage
If you are using a cage trap a couple of good tricks are...
1. Cover the floor of the cage with a good layer of leaf litter so it can't feel the wire floor.
2. Cover the whole cage (sides and top) with a blanket, sack or black plastic. Make it into a tunnel. Works well.
Also check out the Steve Allen cat trap, they are awesome. Very highly recommended.

Its not what you get but what you give that makes a life !!
I put a camera back out a month ago, looks like batteries died after a couple of weeks.
That’s a shame, Cigar. Can you remember what batteries you were using?
I Have Sexdaily. I mean Dyslexia! Fcuk!
Checked my camera this afternoon, six weeks since last checked. A few visitors, but not as many as usual.
Caught this poor little bugger on the cam today. Good chunk of his head missing ill assume from a stray bullet. Was with mum and a sibling.
Checked my camera, more than 3 months since I last checked it so expected batteries to be dead but they were still going (95% according to camera).
Mostly boys hanging around.
