It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

The trouble with the factory brakes on 338s is they generally are designed to cope with a maximum of 250 grain projectiles, much like most of the magazines,
Most guys can almost happily cope with the factory brake with 250s, change to 300s & its a completely different situation.
There is a huge difference in recoil between 200 & 300 grain projectiles.
Couple that with a light weight hunting rifle & the recoil becomes unmanageable
