Thread: Been given a couple of ducks advice needed

The guy I have been relief milking for gave me a couple of ducks when he got back from his shoot today after him and his sons shot their limits, catch is I have to pluck and gut the buggers. How do you guys do your ducks, do you just pluck the breast area and take the breast meat only or do fully pluck and roast them. Never dealt with game birds before and have always wanted to try duck as I have never eaten it before.

Dont give em to the dog.... hang em by the beak till they drop to the ground and then use em for fertiliser!!!!

Certainly getting a lot of helpful advice here!
We used to soak them in warm water with dish wishing liquid for a while then pluck them and singe them. Today there's auto pluckers,

Boiling hot water in a bucket and bit of detergent ,fully pluck, gut, stuff, roast ........ Num Num Num.

Watch out for any steel shot in the meat.

Ended up just taking the breasts off and chucking the rest as I was pretty buggered last night the other half marinated them in lemon juice, ground pepper and garlic and stir fried them with some vegetables and served it up with some Uncle Bens Chinese style rice thoroughly enjoyed it for my first time eating duck and the guy said I could have some more ducks if I liked it as they will be shooting some more soon.

Nice one hunter, I shot my first ducks the other day, have 4 breast and a whole duck in the freezer been having a look around for doing the breasts didn't find anything to my liking, so I plan to do a good ol fry up, slice the breasts into strips, fry em up in butter and onions serve them with mushrooms in creamy sauce will let you know how it goes later this week.

Survy just take care not to over cook the slices as you could send them tough.

I breast most ducks but always like the odd whole one. I.put grape fruit in the.gut cavity then sprinkle the outside and roast suspended above a traynwith water in the bottom
