Weird as that is my favourite meal. Use correct amount of water or slightly more is critical

The cooked breakfast is my favorite backcountry.
Yep use at least as much water as it says on the packet and give plenty of time to rehydrate.

I generally add salt and pepper pre mixed to any dehy meal I am eating as they taste bland without and I cramp like a Bi3tch if I don't keep my salt intake up

We love the BC Scrambled Eggs. It needs to be really well mixed but with a little salt & pepper, can't be beat with a bit of toast & slice of processed cheese/plastic

Nah it was actually inedible, maybe some sort of dud but tasted like a spoon of almost straight salt with a vague hint of egg. Bad enough I doubt I will ever buy another BC meal.

There's no accounting for taste and it's not worth arguing about. I like salty food, to my mind, few things beat fatty pork or steak with a generous sprinkling of salt, but some of the Backcountry meals have proven too salty for me. Now I know why.

Because you are not adding enough water?

No, because I wouldn't put 1.5 teaspoons of salt on to a meal!

I won't buy any other those again either, the last Backcountry meals I had were awful. I ended up living off muesli bars for a couple of days instead of eating them.

If you don’t like Back Country or other pre-pack meals don’t bleat on about them, move on and prepare your own meals. But be honest /diligent when counting salt or sodium intake, you might be surprised at how quickly sodium intake adds up even in ‘healthy’ foods. A friend who is a health nutritionist put me onto this year’s ago, personally I don’t pay too much attention to it and my regular blood tests come out ok. Just remember sodium is essential for your well being, the RDI just varies over time and who you pay attention to.

I avoid them and make alfredo type pastas premix packets (https://www.paknsave.co.nz/shop/prod...0872_ea_000pns) that you simmer and add tuna or some protein. Or I use dehy mash (which is 100% potato https://www.woolworths.co.nz/shop/pr...instant-mashed) with nothing added and add a protein. Very cheap, tastes miles better and have a minor weight penalty.

I'll share the pasta mix with my partner and with 340mg sodium per serve that means 680mg of sodium per serve of the pasta plus a bit with the tuna or protein depending on the mix.

Edit to add; my favourite is instant mash, knob of butter, smoked tuna in a can. Tastes like smoked fish pie and I'd eat at home. Sometimes have this for dinner and breakfast in the bush. If you do this, you'll never touch the nasty dehy meals again.
I buy that mash as well, its bloody good & weighs bugger all!
Plus a the ziplock bag makes it super easy
