Same with HG man nuts and pizzel get removed straight away. I carry a couple of cable ties that I stick around the rear end and oesophagus to stop any spills. Really helps protect the meat from any splashes.
Sniff test as with what Barry says.
I don’t get that option here though. It will only be condemned if it’s full of cyst or other nasty’s. Otherwise it’s off to the game dealer.
All rut animals for me head to the game dealer. Other wise young ones are really good eating.
How long did you leave him to hang?
I try 5 days in the chiller. If you have that option.

Try a marinade of olive oil, some crushed garlic and a good squeeze of lemon juice in the fridge for a couple of days and see how that goes, the lemon juice can pull game flavour out some quite rutty tasting meat

yip, never hang animal out in moonlight...you can get a funky kind of sunburn/moonburn your self ,so there must be something in it.... not worth risking an animal to test it out.

beef venison I have always heard that Mickey Duck and I dont break that rule - so why - cold and dry is the recipe for ageing our meat - so why the old tale of dont hang in moonlight - heard it so many time's must have some application - the only thing I can think of is temperature- moonlight night not so cold

yeah its just one of them things I will believe/follow without testing to see..... as said you can get moonburn, like sunburn so buggered if I know..there is something...them old boys who decided it wasnt a good idea werent prone to wasting meat or doing things to make life hard for themselves so must be some reason/merit in it LOL

Is it just the full moon or does it go for quarter, half and 3 quarter moon as well?

It was a full moon the night I hung it up. I have also heard about not hanging outside on a full moon. The plot thickens!
