If you put your fire above the ground like in a three legged BBQ it becomes an 'alter fire' (I think that is what it is called) and is permissible...well it was back in the scout days.
Re using the bricks and a grill plate.
Back when I was flatting we had a wheel barrow set up with a grill rack out of the oven set up on bricks.... we could wheel it wherever we decided to hold a barby, out of the wind / sun etc
Thanks all. Will probably look into a cheaper version of a Weber style bbq, sounds easier to deal with. Might splash out on a genuine Weber next year.
Will also give the chilly bin trick a go.
Thanks for the tips and tricks

Describe it as a "cultural fire" no problems then
I have a similar grill to the one in the picture. It is what it is. Mainly use it to cook fish on the beach when we have time. I take a bit of charcoal and add to it with drift wood. I don't think you'll find it cheaper than this: https://www.rebelsport.co.nz/product...re-full-grill/
cast iron lpg gas rings from the warehouse...rough as guts, heavy, bullet proof and last for years...Ive got a double ring one,one small ring inside big outer ring...it goes everywhere (including to mates place to cook up trophy heads,) 3ring lpg burner isnt a big thing to carry and more versitile ,bit more gentle handling needed but great for cooking decent meal...wife prefers that...Im happy to use one put for everything....
as for keeping cool,go into local fish shop...or fish n chip shop and get a couple of poly bins.....pour about 2" of water into them and place in deep freeze...WARNING,if you use poly bin to keep your beer cold, you will be waiting three days before they all thaw out again, couldve pulled them out,but wheres the fun in that???
