Police are feeling the pinch at the moment. A lot of non coms are being laid off. Their workload has gone through the roof. Introduce potential changes to the law and the AO's will be chasing there tails. There is going to be a lot of pissed off people inside NZ police if changes happen. Dont expect to see anything fast happening in this arena.
If there is a stupid law change, guns are going to disappear quicker than the police will be able to react. They know this. They know they are under resourced for the quantities in question.
My opinion is that they will allow owners to either keep as A-Cat with a draganov / thumbhole type solution or will allow the migration to E. To have them on E would be smarter for the Police as then they would know exactly where the guns are. If this is the case I would expect to see a market spring up for cheap E-Cat security solutions.
...IMHO of course.
