Such a shame that experienced guys like this don't seem to be able to pass on their skills / experience. Makes me wonder where the world will be when the younger generations dont know their ar+e from their elbow...

What a fantastic offer, if I wasn't so far I'd be around like a shot. A true scratchbuilt gunsmith is a rare thing. Most these days buy a stock and screw a ready to fit barrel on and call themselves a gunsmith.
Nice to see someone offer something of true value!!
I've watched my gunmaker her in the uk, did his apprenticeship at Purdys! It's amazing the knowledge that those eight years working for them has given him.
He's also tried training apprentices, but had nothing but trouble.
Guess generation ME has no idea that if you stick in a bit of hard graft now you won't have to later on.
Good luck to you though I hope you find a good one to train!!

What a top offer Lefty1 surly there is someone willing to learn that trade close to Wanganui, hope somebody contacts you soon.
Wow this sounds like an amazing opportunity.. I would be all over this if I lived in that area. Good on you!
One lucky Wanganui bloke is gonna strike gold!
By law, you are required to turn on your headlights if it's raining in Sweden.
How the hell am I supposed to know if it's raining in Sweden?
If I lived in wanganui I'd be keen as to learn all I could. But I live in Auckland. You might have better luck in a different sub forum.
