    Uhuh! Right. Lightbulb moment.

I think its probably a lot of work for little reward and the difference might be immeasurable but as you say, nothing ventured - nothing gained. And hell, it was probably a bit of fun in any case so what the heck, right?

I "machine-polished" the visible part of my bolt so when you look at it through the ejection port it has polished circles about 7 or 8 mm in diameter across the side. The kids told me I was nuts. But hey, it looks cool and who cares...? I was having fun.

I think the modification I spoke of above is more rewarding... for a lot less effort. Give it a go.

Didn't take long with the dremil and some compound, got any pics of your bolt ? How do you achieve the circles ?

The Mod/ polishing you have done Danny won't do any harm at all , in fact Gundoc did it to mine as soon as he had the bolt out and as far as I'm concerned the man's a guru on this stuff.
I have further polished the bolt contact areas with autosol. One thing I am noticing is the action is smoothing out a lot as the 750 -1000 round mark comes up, easier to cock the action and getting quieter during cycling.

It was noticeably smoother post polishing too, this rifle is still only at a it 200 rounds tops

Yes the more rounds you put through it the better it will get, mine is an old model and has had nothing done to but shooting it and it is quite smooth to operate. It has had many thousands of rounds through it though.

So went and had a play with the red dot holosight today and let's just say I couldn't get consistent results with it, I found that if I got it sghted in taking standing shots it was on the piss for sitting/crouching shots etc and if I didn't shoulder the rifle exactly the same the poi would shift dramatically.
Due to the type of shooting I intend to use this rifle for that just wasn't going to cut it, so I went home and chucked the tasco 3-9×40 back on and went back out and shot this group, standing @ 50 yards first time.
    I think that'll do.

Of note the trigger is terrible but I have someone lined up to do a trigger job on it.
I do have one question, the group I shot is about 1/2 " left of where I want it, my scope is 1/4" @ 100 yards but I am shooting at 50 yards how many clicks do I adjust to move left 1/2 " ? Sorry if it's a dumb question but I just can't get my head around it

I think at 50 yards you will move the point of impact 1/8 inch for each click assuming it moves correctly each click. I know at 200 yards your 1/4 inch value moves the impact 1/2 an inch each click. Try that and see, otherwise just keep moving it till you reach the point you want to be at. Rifle groups ok , not sure where people get the idea the don't shoot cause I have never seen that and I have had a few and seen quite a few others that shoot well, good enough for pest control that's for sure.

That's what I was thinking reference the click values.
Definitely shoots good enough for what I want, and to be fair I reckon it shoots pretty bloody well. With a lighter trigger I reckon I can improve on that grouping (not that it needs it) I was really fighting pulling due to heavy trigger.

A lighter trigger will shrink the group a little more and don't forget you are still learning a new rifle and a different trigger so that will improve as the round count increases.
Also as I mentioned the rifle will also bed in and smooth out further.
There nothing wrong with that group as rabbit rifle and you should be able to shoot to 100 yrds on that 50 yrd group and hit a rabbit most of the time.

I said before this is a working rifle designed for high volume shooting and that accuracy will head shoot a rabbit all day long at 50 yrds.
It's not a target rifle or a bench rest rifle and it was never mean't to be for it's conception.

Personally I never head shoot anyway, I put it behind the front shoulder and destroy and gearbox and motor. works every time 100% of the time.

You are dead right Viper, the 10/22 was never designed to be a target rifle but sure works fine for a pest control rifle.
