The m96 in my posting is the 1916 CG with Elm stock. Targets show results from Tikka - 139 gr Lapua Scenar and 143 eldx, both at 100 yds. Love the calibre

I test fired the most shot out 6.5x55 you will ever see last week.
Now I knew this rifle wouldn't group but I was really only testing the extraction system because it is fairly unique

A heavy proof load from the bench and trigger pulled with a string.
    That was fine

Then two low pressure rounds at 25m with the open sights.
We all pretty well pissed ourselves because you could even see which way round the sideways bullets were.
And I was aiming at the target above this image

That firearm needs retiring. I could possibly offer a replacement as I’m getting old.

    It is officially retired
In the re barrel category now

What I find amazing is that someone shot it out to that stage and must have continued to shoot it well beyond effectiveness

Those sideways projectiles would absolutely Hammer an animal at 25 yards

Yeah But from where I was aiming and where they went that gives it an effective maximum range of less than 50m

So I have vastly more suitable bush pigs than that

Love to see a slo-mo of what trajectory those bullets are actually doing. Hate to get hit by one...

Old owner might have used Carcano .268 sized projectiles and it shot well enough not to tumble. Also .268 used in Arisaka carbines if std 6.5 projectiles nfg.

A bit of shooting today at 350 mtrs with a nice wee grouping range.
