Just what I was hoping to hear. Gotta love dark wood, can't wait to see the finished product!
Are you going to checker it?

Yes I intend to checker it but have never done it before so its going to be slow going.
Very nice job, I hope you had a lot of pleasure building it as I did mine.
Good luck with it at the range.
Thanks KC. Will be a while before it gets to the range. Progress has slowed somewhat because I decided to install pillars (easier said than done). That and bedding top and bottom now finished. Will post some more pics soon.
progress pics
Are those pillars aluminum or brass?

Bronze. Turned them out of an old boat keel bolt that was laying around the shed.
Wow this looks amazing, Great job on the build, would love to do something like this myself. Where did you originally source the laminated timber? or did you glue it yourself?
Thanks William. Laminated here out of odd bits of kauri (kauri good to work) planking left over from a boat I built years ago. Used epoxy glue and clamped the lot between a couple of decent strongbacks.
I made my pillars from a flat bit of steel I had laying around and formed it around a steel rod of similar size to the screws I was using. Worked for me
Nice work! I wouldn't checker it though - Kauri doesn't have quite the right properties for a really nice checking job.
Yeah ,am having second thoughts on checks Shamus (gonna be pretty functional without). Always something I can do later anyway.
almost ready for oiling.
Looks great mate. Makes me want to finish mine even more

Thanks Toby. Not perfect but huge improvement on old stock, have gone off plastic a bit. Hows your beast coming along? did you sort out the inlet issues? cheers Mike.
