    Seems to me that ...

    ... it's a cartridge matter.

    Whatever the firearm, the cartridge primer needs to be indented by so-much. The sum of headspace plus so-much is your required firing pin protrusion.

    Mauser field test for firing pin protrusion was it should .at h the notch in the rear v sight.
    I'd imagine that would be close for nearly all centerfires, dependent on firing pin diameter maybe

    Standard firing pin protrusion for centrefires is .060" (1.5mm near enough) and should have a nice smooth hemispherical nose.
