suggestions on material to build up rifle stock grip

i want to change the shape of my boyds stock to have a more pronounced vertical pistol grip and slightly larger palm swell on the left side.

at the moment I have a temporary fix using some closed cell foam sleeping mat and electrical tape the Mrs just rolled her eyes when I showed her the latest mods, haha.

what are good options for this type of job ? standard old builders bog or car body filler ? perfect option would be something that stays in a semi pliable state where I can mold it wearing a latex glove etc... reasonable grippy rubber finish would be a plus too.

Iv seen a hand full of car bog used. Didn't look very nice, but neither did the rest of the rifle. But seemed to work.
The guy said he filled his hand and slapped it on.

How about cutting a flat surface on the grip, say 10mm in. Then epoxy glue a nice slab of similar looking timber on it well oversized. Then shape it to fit.

Ive done this in the past to a few rifles. I went through a bit of a mini14 stage (oh the embarrassment ) and they all needed comb and grip enhancements to make them even remotely ergonomical.

Oh and car bog is okay if just making a plug, or mock up stock...But it crumbles like old bread on rifles stocks. Stay away from it at all costs if possible.

I've brought a few trademe bargains that others have had a go at bedding with bog. It's not a good idea.

Oh just had another thought. Instead of adding material, have you thought of taking it away?

I've reshaped a few stocks and created the palm swell by removing wood from the pistol grip. I'll try dig of some photos

You could use epoxy with a suitable filler (look at the west system stuff), or go for a combination of thickened epoxy and wood

I would even consider taking this one step further. Shave both sides and front of the current palm swell etc to a square shape then bond a replacement piece of a nicer timber then shape that as you see fit. Then if you want a textured surface you can either chequer it yourself or glue something on.

Maybe not quite what your thinking but might be an easier option- they have left handed ones too.
