When buying ammo from a gunshop or sports shop, the staff check my firearm licence and I pay for the ammo. Done deal.
When buying ammo from my local farm supply store, general store or service station they check my licence AND record my name, licence number, calibre and quantity of ammo bought. In a big ledger kept under the counter.
Apparently no one else has a problem with this but I hate giving out personal information without good cause. Also, staff turnover at farmshops and servo's can be quite high and I have known the odd dodgy character to get a job at these places. Would really prefer if they did not have access to a book of local shooters' ammo details. More so now with meth sweeping through rural towns like mine and users doing burgs to fund their habits.
Consequently I try to buy ammo at gunshops whenever possible...but occasionally the farmshop has a clearance or special that is too good to pass up, or maybe I need a couple of boxes for an unexpected mission.
Long story short, why do farmshops, service stations etc. record ammo purchase details? Your thoughts please!
