He'd be up for multiple Misuse of A Document, Misuse of a Computer, and multiple firearms charges. Police are probably panicking because when you think about the charges he's liable for it makes the investigation team as crooked as he is. And then we have an even bigger problem.

The registry needs to be taken away from the cops, and a fire needs to be lit under the arses of those who 'investigated' it - maybe they need to be investigated for corruption as well.

So does this mean that a prosecution will be forthcoming or is it just swept under the carpet because an internal "investigation" found nothing wrong?

This is such a crook of shit.

You cannot access the Police National Intelligence Applications (NIA) for an unlawful purpose.

I think there is a need for a totally independent firearms licensing body that administers everything to do with applications, safe inspections, liaise with Police about offences which are discovered etc.

But the most important part is my opinion is the Application and its relevant enquiries etc.

In the process of the interview part of an application, they need to be skilled interviewers, not some broken arse old fart that wants extra pocket money to supplement his pension. This is the most critical phase of an application, and as has been aptly demonstrated in Chch, what happens when it isn't done correctly and the process followed robustly.

There are some things in this country which we cannot and should not try to scrimp and save money on. I believe that this is one of them.

The effects of a failure are just devastating and, bloody expensive to clean up, subsequent hearings and also the ongoing cost of keeping a certain person in jail for the next 100 years.

This is quite scary if this is actually indeed possible, since license details are easily shared when making purchases, making things open to abuse should someone unlawfully use your licence number for such a thing.
Surely in most cases when purchasing a firearm the retailer will sight your license and see if the photo matches you, so in theory shouldnt be possible? And mail orders still require you to go and fill a form out at the station and sight you and your license in person correct?
Of course it was simple enough for the officer to do so with access to the system which is probably more of a concern to be honest over a member of the public attempting the same thing.

I am not a fan of firearms being registered as I dont believe it does anything for the overall safety of the general public.
The police have access to the register, understandable I guess, but should NOT have access to admin rights to said register imho.
Fine for them to check the records, but not fine to be able to change a private persons details within the register without at the very least getting the FAL holders signature to do so.
I have access to a data base containing details that could easily be used for ID theft, in the wrong hands. I do not however have admin rights beyond a minimum level, and that is how it should be

If your a police officer officer Its actually very easy to get what you want. As a real life example but not firearms related tho they wanted certain people put in jail. You can watch it on you tube, its about 3 teenage girls from Mt Roskill quite a while back that got wrongly convicted of a viscous assault that they didn't do. That one is a bit personal to us as one of them Is my wifes cousin. Its actually disgusting and totally incompetent Of how these girls were treated....
