Some interesting points. I think that with your support Cam and counselling he should be right. Just keep things progressing.

I wouldn't be too hard on the police ,they appear to being impartial & fair in their approach .I'm sure they appreciate the situation by what you've told us VC. The cops are people too ,most of are good sorts & not little Hitlers. That type are a very small minority & generally don't last very long in the force.
The 1's in my family are good types ,funny buggers some times. Like turning up to give me a lift from air port & slapping the cuffs on & hauling me out by the scruff . Cuzie Goodeson's idea of a joke ,funny prick.
Consider maybe his Ex has stuck her 2 cents worth in by way of being nasty .
Just hope it all works out in his favor & he's able to retain his firearms .

Toby guns don't talk back, woman do. You can have guns in different sizes but if you tried that with women they would get jealous of one another and make your life hell. You can lock a gun away when you don't want to handle it but try that with a woman and she will leave you in a flash. You are only seventeen Toby and you have twenty guns. If you had twenty women you wouldn't make it to eighteen. Stick with your guns for the moment young fellah there is plenty of time yet.

This is what I was looking for

Top 10 reasons a gun is better than a woman.
#10 You can trade an old 44 for a new 22 and even get money back!

#9 You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you're on the
    road.

#8 If you admire a friend's gun and tell him so, he will probably
let you try it out a few times.

#7 Your primary gun doesn't mind if you keep another gun for a backup.

#6 Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.

#5 A gun doesn't take up a lot of closet space.

#4 Guns function normally every day of the month.

#3 A gun doesn't ask , "Do these new grips make me look fat?"

#2 A gun doesn't mind if you go to sleep after you use it.

And the number one reason a gun is better than a woman.

#1 YOU CAN BUY A SILENCER FOR A GUN

Is there a protection order in place or has one been applied for?

The licence will be suspended for three months, then will be revoked if not appealed.

I would suggest getting something in writing saying that you are now the owner of the firearms, because if his licence is revoked they have the power so seize and dispose of any weapons he has. I'm not saying they would, but there is every possibility that they would come knocking for his firearms.

The AO is happy the firearms have been removed to another location.
    Protection order? against himself?
His parents are moving here soon so will move to his dads safe when available.
Cops came round again last night to give him the paperwork.
From what i can gather(second hand) they are happy for them to be out of his access until such time as his doctor gives written notice that he feels he is fit to be in possession of them again.

    Conflicting information

so what is the acual bones to this thread?

a mate is having marital and/or mental issues?

you are looking after his rifles till he is back in a good head space?

    I am slighly confused

realistically I can see a valid point to speaking with the cops after a mental episode. due mainly to the point that not everyone gets better, some get worse. the last thing we want to see is someone sorting their problems out with a rifle pointed at either themselves or someone else.

ok......I understand most of this except the re-applying within 3 months or he's stuffed part.

So does he need to get medical clearance within 3 months otherwise thats it? No more guns? If so, then thats a shitty deal. 3 months isn't long enough by any means. Otherwise he and youself have done the correct thing 100% through and it would be a kicker if a timeframe is put on someone trying to get well/stable.

    Hope it all works out
