"E-Cat" Safes being sold by Hamills Taupo

    Just came across this: https://www.hamillstaupo.co.nz/produ...9-23e906c116b7

Ignoring there's no such thing as E-Cat any more, these safes would be a pretty long way off meeting endorsement recommendations one of the key ones being 6mm mild steel or equivalent.

All of their safes are labelled "E-Cat": https://www.hamillstaupo.co.nz/collections/gun-safes

Seems a bit misleading at best to me.

Someone could interpret that as being suitable for the P endorsement firearms but the 2 and 3 mm steel walls certainly wouldn’t pass muster.

What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

I've asked a question of them, I'll see what they say... certainly open to erroneous interpretation.

I have a feeling that anybody who has jumped through the hoops (or is contemplating doing so) to obtain a 'P' endorsed licence will be very much aware of the specifics regarding "safe-keeping" requirements. They will know that 2/3 mm thickness walls are totally inadequate.
The specifications, as advertised, would not have been adequate even for the now redundant 'E' category endorsed "toys".

Guys it used to be that a "safe" had to meet different specifications and the whole 6mm steel thing was if you made your own "safe" which came under different rules. Of course all that has likely changed now!

God damn it, ruining a good witch hunt.
They also responded to my question saying they had updated the listings. Well at least that's cleared up.
