They warned me that there was a delay in getting them processed and others I spoke to said allow 3 - 5 months. So I allowed 3 months and applied for a Sept renewal in July. They had it sorted inside 4 weeks and I got mine back in early August with a July expiry. Bastards docked me two months for being prepared.....

You can ask for and should receive a new licence with the correct expiration date.

I did ask and had a thorough discussion with the lady in charge and they said that they post date it up to a month, but to give me the full length would mean my next license was 10 years and three months which is too long between checks.....

I finally got the visit I was waiting for today as well.
The guy walked into my lounge, looked across at the safe and says words along the lines of " oh yeah, same as the last time I was here" and then leaves
    10 seconds at the most

You say got it sorted within 4 weeks - was that 4 weeks after the visit from the person interviewing you or 4 weeks from the start of the process?

Mine has been 2 weeks of waiting now and need it pronto

If anyone is renewing their license it looks to be a 3-4 week wait to your door for the card print run

As a stop gap you can use a mail order form 43A to get guns or ammo provided you have been approved for renewal in the police system

Just had to use my licence the other day first time in ages on a s43 for some ammo, after getting being outraged at the inqusitive what firearms will it be used in question, I saw it expires in 2 months!. No reminder from the police based on the comments above I better get on it today, or I wont be "fit and proper"

Not for renewal but for new people, do not go to VTNZ for the online test and in future do not go to AA either. That really limits the options!

How I know about this is from bitter experience. The Police letter says can't prebook for test but I decided just in case & to possibly save time I'd call VTNZ to check if needed to book in. That was yesterday and they said no need to book. Turned up today, queued 20 mins behind people getting WOFs, driver licenses, etc. Person I see then says "oh I'm not sure", 15mins on phone & then tells me all VTNZ stopped doing the FAL online tests yesterday! Then another 5 mins on phone to tell me AA do the tests. Well doh sherlock, the police letter she had in her hand said that! So I walk 20mins to nearest AA, queue 25mins behind WOF, oil changes, memberships etc before seeing a person who within 30secs checks my ID & has me sitting in front of a PC. Test done & passed :-) Then as she's printing the you've passed form she casually says I'm lucky as AA is stopping doing the FAL tests soon. All up the 10minute test took 2hrs of faffing around and in future there will be bugger all places to do it.

Four weeks from submitting the paperwork. Probably closer to three. The visit from the vettor was arranged inside the week from submitting, and the visit the following week. License arrived around 10 days later. Workmate applied for his , took two weeks for the vettor and 10 WEEKs later he was still awaiting his license....Due to compete (shotgun) in Aussie about a month after that... and was getting very worried.

I am only guessing here, but I reckon it would take a darn sight longer than ten minutes to get a fal in uk these days

The written test is going to be done at the same time as the practical tests with the instructor. Just like it used to be.

I heard it was one of the things Mike MacIlraith changed back to save fucking people around, making them to sit two tests at different times and places.

It only affects new applications, not renewals, so I don't really care much myself as it doesn't affect me.
