I take it that their fees will be reduced if picked up from their depot instead of delivering.

That 1 of 2 things will happen:

The police will start to record these details, serials, who's picking it up etc. Therefore making a register of some kind. (Most likely in my view)

IF NOT they will instead use it as a reason for "why not register your firearms" when you already have to pick it up from them anyway. (They may as well just do #1 because what are you going to do about it?)
All of the above agreed with, but remember the police is a public organisation staffed by... well people. People who would not relish to have yet another admin duty forced on them. More likely that they would levy an admin fee for the service, which would be reasonable of course.

BTW Anyone know of statistics of firearms getting "lost" in the mail? I'd have thought that could be a likely source of criminal-owned guns (not, as has been alleged, Firearms Licensees buying guns for criminals).

I think you'll find a lot of firearms being Couriered and marked as a cricket set etc. Have always told the driver on pick up what there carrying, hoping they will take extra care, but have noticed over the last couple of years with different nationalities entering the industry a horrified look on the face of some.

Fastways would take firearms knowingly, don't know if any others do without charging the world. Very lucky to receive a firearm from overseas if you didn't obtain the appropriate import licence which isn't cheap.

Whilst you're right the people who actually have to do the work probably wouldn't be for it, it's never actually them who decides whether they do or not.

    Sorry my mistake.
They will only deliver to an arms registered business if not then it has to be collected from the local fastway depot and you will be asked to present your firearms licence.

Just had ammunition " delivered" by Fastways, caught the driver placing the package in my letter box which is 50 metres from the house. Package was marked "obtain signature" with DG stickers all over it. Driver didn't have a clue what it meant. See the end of private 'Mail order" Courier delivery coming for firearm related articles, hope I'm wrong.

Wouldn't take long for your local gun shop to the sales he's missing and withdraw the service.

The courier is doing that for free anyway. You just go there instead of the gunstore.
