Thread: Firearms Safety Authority

The postal bidding form for a firearms auction I was keen on, required me to record:

1. my firearms licence "version", and

2. which "C" endorsement I had, either C1, C2, C3 or C4.

I couldn't answer these in spite of a lengthy search online, so I rang the NZ Firearms Safety Authority, Te Tari Pureke. This is the newly established unit which has 470 staff and deals with all firearms legislative and licencing issues. The person who took my call, told me the licence version I had was recorded on my firearms licence. When I told her my licence pre-dated this innovation, she was stumped. Then, when I enquired about the multiple endorsement categories, she told me she wasn't aware of these, and couldn't help me..

Roll on, the firearms register.

Was talking with a mate who's just done a licence renewal and the interviewer told him that it wasn't up to the authority to tell us how to comply with new rules, it was up to us to find out and provide assurances.

I can’t wait for them to tell me I don’t have a B endorsement again.

think they are deliberately laying out a minefield for firearms owners to navigate and hoping we all or alot of us trip up?

I had identical experience with handin .spoke to NZ police "person"-their listing showed my escort 12g as illegal yet according to its handbook it was 100%legal likewise the Stoeger .when i asked she admitted she didnt have a clue!!!!!!!!after a short conundrum she was happy to accept what my hand book said .Queried further,she candidly admitted the police didnt write the list -that work was "outsourced".god help us all cause comrade andys coffee and croissant circle aint gonna,nor their pet ferret Cahill.

They should be. Police performance on administration of the act lies between negligence and malicious misuse

Try topping this for competence. I have a foreign visitor using my house for rifle storage, and in the course of getting his visitors license this came from the NZP Firearms section.

Gives me Huuuuuuuge confidence they'll get the register right.

I would've thought your local Arms officer should quickly be able to tell you what category you hold. You'll find incompetence in most businesses at some point though. Try dealing with Spark as an example.

I would agree, if the new rules weren't so damn fuzzy in many cases. I would have thought clarifying them, if required, would not be unreasonable.
