One KEY point is that we are supposed to be getting an INDEPENDANT firearms authority and by their own statement "The new Firearms Safety Authority (“FSA”), a unit recently set up within the NZ Police to administer civilian firearms ownership in NZ," they are proving to be a load of bollocks there too...

It is a "Business Unit" within the NZ Police. Self-explanatory, it is User-Pays Policing. How long before Police start charging a "Fee" for background/vetting checks for employment in certain vocations. It is a slippery slope.

It was supoosed to be (and we were promised...) an independant firearms authority so the Police could do Police stuff as they appeared incapable of doing FAL stuff....Perhaps incapable is not the right word. Perhaps the term "took the FAL administration budget and spent it in other depts leaving the FAL system iunder resourced, understaffed and in an absolute mess so they could look better elsewhere...." Is it really incapable when it is a concious decision to not do a job you are paid to?
