Nothing is safe anywhere ever now a days, A locked vehicle can have its contents stolen in 10 seconds, So to leave a gun in one is just dumb

I'm surprised some mental hasn't yet publicly claimed that it was a false flag operation by the cops to make gun owners look bad.

Agree with @shooternz about people who don't lock their houses and cars as a matter of good habit and routine. Pain is coming.

What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

We have a member here who once told me he had a firearm nicked from a locked car that was parked outside a cop shop. Shit can happen

Why do you think that isn't a possibility?

I'm not saying that happened as it could have been someone walking in off the road but i always like to keep an open mind especially with very little information that's been presented.

Temptation is the mother of all evil's... that's why i don't like to leave things in plain view when leaving my car locked. 70% of thefts are through opportunity... ie unlocked vehicle with gun possibly in plain sight. Had the vehicle been locked and gun not in plain site (not saying it was) then you only have to worry about the 30% who are determined to get in and take the valuables that are in plain view.

Your initial response is hard to figure out... are you taking aim at my post or the guy who had his firearm stolen or both?

Judging by the number of shot up road signs, poaching and the like, assuming that all FALs are good sorts and wouldn't steal given the opportunity is sadly not reality these days.
What's happened is a reminder for us all, whether the club rooms and gun range is close to, or a long way from the road and general public access.
