I find the word poacher gets thrown around all to easily I know it happens all the time and the effect it must have on some land owners.
I hunt in an area that is renowned for spotlighters where some land is private and some is doc which is now getting harder to feel like you have free access because as soon as you walk in in the early or late hours with a head torch and a gun you are automatically classed as a poacher
I see photos on here all the time showing deer that have been shot and the photos have been taken at night time, does that mean they have been poached?
At what stage does walking through doc land at night time with a light and a gun become illegal hunting?
The word poacher to me means people that take, kill, shoot, root other people's stock.
Sorry all, had to get that off my chest, hope it makes some kind of sense
Um, how about when the rifle is loaded ? To me that says active hunting. If they were just walking in to hut, why is the rifle loaded ? Active hunting around midnight, on or near doc land is asking for trouble. At least it was not an innocent camper that was shot this time... Hope he recovers and that the police get to the real story and take appropriate action.

It's on stuff , this means nobody least of all the reporter knows what really happened so probably put ya pitchforks away for now eh
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
Well, riding quad bikes on a DOC block at midnight and shoots one self with a loaded 270 tells me two things. Darn fools and more than a good chance they are illegally hunting. Hopefully charges are laid no matter what because theres no excuse for that. Best result he survived and looses his firearm licence for good because we all better of without dickheads like that

Good riddens, one less person in the area I hunt for the roar! Now there will just be 19 of us each day ,
My two cents says poaching. I know this area like the back of my hand. If they were heading IN to the dam BEFORE midnight I would say for sure they were spotlighting the road. The nearest hut is 4 hours from the road end and there is no way anyone would be leaving a quad parked up to go for a 'daylight' hunt in the bush, let alone near Shannon.
You know, if you need 100 rounds to kill a deer, maybe hunting isn't your sport.
