Funny this subject was brought up.I met the above guy on a few jobs around chch.He was into hunting and so was I.We talked about doing a
few days up in the hills. So I went on a Friday afternoon up north Canterbury and he was to arrive on the Monday for a few days hunting with me.But he never turned up at all.No tex message or anything. So the following week I got a message from him that he couldn't make it.Had girl friend problems.Hm I thort that's ok I got a deer for my self any how.
Well a few months later I read in the court notices about gc car park shooter and his name popped up,the date of this incident was the same weekend that he was to go hunting with me.Well I be thort you stupid c,the bullet went thru the passage door and thru the next truck door just after the driver had took about 2 steps from shutting the door.Bullet ended up in the opposite door.He got off light and got to keep his gun licence. I rang him up and said what the f were you thinking.Oh I had my mind was on other things.I said yr gun should not have been fkn loaded in the 1st place.I thing its better if you hunt on yr own in the future and its safer for me.That was my last words to him.Grrrrr

I saw a very good safety idea for transporting firearms on a youtube film last week.
The bloke had a couple of bolt action rifles.
He left the bolts in so they wouldn't get lost or left at home, but what he did to make this safe was to lock each rifle with a cable type padlock. The cable being threaded through the magazine well so that the bolt could not close. A chamber flag was used as well.
This also solved the problem of what to do when leaving firearms in a vehicle while dashing into a shop for a pie.

Nope...........Constable Plod would still argue that "no firearm should be left unattended in a vehicle". His perception, and i agree is that the vehicle could be entered / broken into and the rifle could still be stolen.

When transporting mine, (Ford Laser hatch back with fold down rear seats) in case i have to pop out for a pie or pee, I use the the stainless steel cable with lock but go a little bit further, (Not enough to satisfy Plod) by having the rifle covered in the boot and running the cable through one of the metal eye fittings which the fold down rear seats are attached to when in the upright position.

The trick is to buy the officer a pie as well, as a thank you for keeping watch on your vehicle

I fairly regularly travel to the rifle range about 1.5 to 1.75 hrs drive away with several rifles, and always have to stop for a pee and or a pie. Rifles are in cases or bags and covered, along with any other obvious shooting related stuff. There are usually two of us in the car so take turns peeing, and park where we can see the vehicle if going to a dairy or bakery. Car is alarmed and immobilised which adds a bit of security too.

take the bolt out when going in to buy that steak n cheese pie...... I have a built in security system in my car when going hunting...if you are game enough to put hand into wagon after breaking in and alerting my big black bitch......you are a gamer man than me and would possibly not be able to pick your nose or scratch your arse ever again as she would not hesitate to take your hand off.....

I once told-off a minor celebrity at the range for handling a rifle while someone was down range. Some people need to be told, hopefully only once.

OK, however, ignoring for the moment "your vehicle resident from hell", how do you react when seeing requests on this site from those , "seeking a bolt" for a firearm?

Bloody great red flag and sirens to me.
