Thread: New government will rewrite Arms Act

By the same token - ACT now has to delivery on its rhetoric.

"We" may have put them there , but "they" will do what politicians do and chase whatever makes them look best.

Seen it all before - hope for the best but dont feel disappointed if their best is differant to yours.....

I see that and that in and of itself is part of the problem.

We all took our gun ownership as a right untill it was taken from us,now its a privilage.Lack of a united front made that easier to do than it otherwise could have been.
As firearms owners we need to understand that individual financial contributions are probably going to be needed by all of us to fund those who will lobby on our behalf. I would love to see retailers get behind this by publically donating a portion of retail sales or advertising products from which a donation coulød be made at purchase.

As a group we are far better educated and motivated than we were pre 2019 as well as now being in a position where block voting has made a difference.

The anti gun lobby was on Three news last night as well. Expect them to ramp up the emotional rhetoric as time moves toward the end of Nicole’s work. They are organised and articulate and we need to become similarly equipped.

Absolutely spot on. Ministry (to promote) Hunting and Fishing is a hopeful start.

Buried within the UN Agenda 2030 SDGs (Sustainably Development Goals) there are oblique references to 85% of small arms being in civilian hands, and when you dig into the educational resources being provided by the UN for our children, disarming civilian populations makes an appearance as critical to "safety". Read into that what you will.

What's interesting to the UN argument, is there is no mention of Govt-level supply of arms to militias and the like that end up getting diverted to outfits who use them against other Govt's and the corresponding civilian populations. I'm not sure who is end of line for responsibility for the UN propaganda that they spit out but they really need to take the rose-tinted glasses off and start looking at who and where the 'weapons' get into the countries where they are used like that and what the sources are. I mean, those aren't civilian firearms most of them are of the AK variants and there are a few Colt derivatives and FN designs as well - these things don't magically turn up one morning on the back of a stork with a hallelujah!

It's one of the problems with firearms legislation, dogmatic blind obedience to UN rhetoric just doesn't appear to result in productive, effective control regimes.

I am pleased to see the Ministry of Hunting and Fishing established. It does not matter how many hunters we have in NZ if they don't have a voice it matters little. Many hunters move toward target shooting as they get older, something to be encouraged. It is bums on seats in the shooting and hunting related clubs that gives us a voice. Individuals just don't get heard in the din.

Certainly not from this corner. While the criminal element don’t register theirs a while they can remove the serial numbers from mine if they were to steal them, I fail to see any beneficial point to it.

Don't flame me 'cos it might get the thread canned.

But if the register was refined, made easier and more useable and out of the Police's hands (Nicole-ised) it might be something that will be acceptable for us and appease what I think is a majority that support it. Even better still if the Police and Courts really double down on the things Rushy highlighted, and that's likely under this government too.
