Get them in fellahs. The submissions I mean for those that just this was a command for some other activity.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

It's a bit like an election. If you don't vote, for whatever reason, you're not really in a position to bleat about the result.

A late addition for those who might want to take issue directly with one of Gun Control NZ's claims (see their website):

I would like to respond directly to one point I believe is raised in opposing submissions; that "Police have provided data which shows that people who obtain a firearms licence as teenagers are more likely to commit crimes than their unvetted peers. Given this data, we recommend that a higher minimum age is established for holding a full firearms licence. We recommend that the minimum age should be at 18, as it is in Australia."

To suggest that the act of applying for, being granted, and holding a firearms licence predisposes a 16 year old to crime - yet this is somehow avoided if the applicant waits another two years - is patently ridiculous and unsupported by any credible mechanism.

I respectfully suggest that any group or individual which promotes this position and has misinterpreted/manipulated statistics in order to support it, is clearly lacking in critical thinking and common sense. They are interested in restricting and penalising law-abiding firearms users by any means, rather than identifying and addressing actual safety concerns. I suggest that all other views promoted by these same groups or individuals will be a product of the same bias and should be viewed as such.

Please put the above in your own words if you want to use it.

They are the zealots who believe that the only people who should be able to use (not own) firearms, are the military and the police.
When guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns.

Did anyone notice that the first feed when you search for the email for submissions has a link to gun controls submission?

Now that all of the submissions have been lodged, is there a web link to view them?

Actualy reading what they have said , responding to this may not need to be a part of the submission but a direct message regarding mistruth and misinformation to any MP on the committee. Commenting on their credibility is not a submission on the potential changes but rather a public service announcement....

Is it publicly available who is actually on the committee / reading the submissions?

I would almost argue the opposite of what they said was true- That if a 16 yr old is shown to be fit and proper that they would be A) proven to be mature enoguh that they would obey the law which is part of being fit and proper, and B) also LESS disposed to commit crime as they have more to lose than your average hoon....Your average teen hoon seems to not have any concerns about consequences shown by continuing to drive (bdly) after accumulating more ticket s thatn their vehicles are worth and still have no intention of paying or stopping what they are doing....

Having done my time in NZ Defense, a number of my younger fellows joined at 16 - handled the SLR/Steyr etc. And many never applied for a firearms license for recreation activities outside work. They were deemed fit and proper to handle firearms while in Defense - proves a point to me - evidence based that the system works. That's life.

Well, they were also in a well structured system , with a big boot kick in the ass to reming them to walk the line straight if they were not…. Some thing that a lot of youth don’t have nowdays. Figuratively speaking
