Thread: Opening bolt before handling rifle.

    That chimp vid reminds me of when I had just got a wee .22 semi, and a "mate" asked me for a looksy. I was 100% sure it was empty, and handed rifle to him.
    He proceeded to swing the gun around above his head and under his arm etc, telling me " its a f***** toy ya c***".
    Then he pulls the trigger with the rifle facing his folks house 15 feet away. It was somehow cocked.
    His actual words still ring in my ears.
    "F***** lucky the piece of s**** wasn't f****** loaded"

    We are no longer friends.

    With a .22 rimfire semi you can usually pull the bolt back slightly and dry fire it. This at least stops the firing pin from hitting the edge of the chamber.

    If you assume as you should that all guns are loaded then there should never be an issue.

    My favorite local in Chch I am very impressed with the open bolt check chamber attitude of all their staff - here's a hint inital's arn't GC or HnF
