I think itys just your FAL number (along with your name I guess). Still not overly secure but will take a little bit of extra work to tie that to a physical address/location.

Absolutely. I was getting at the fact that even a paper copy can be accessed if not secured properly. (Paper info can be 'hacked- meaning accessed by those who should not have access...) And as you say, I am pretty sure our own private systems of information storage are more secure than the Police are capable of- certainly that is what history and evidence shows us....

At a recent club ammo purchase, the register only records ammo type/quantity, FAL number, initials and club membership number. A separate membership database can be used to provide full personal details. It's that membership database which is the most security sensitive.

The police will want to recoup some of that $$$$ spent on the shit software and they will possibly try to price people out to reduce the number of firearms in circulation. At this stage we can't fight it.
The thing I hear from the people I know in that trade is the software goes through to the final enter button, then resets back to the start screen. Once that failure occurs a few times, they can start doing it manually thanks. Not worth my time to get stuffed about on a system that doesn't work, they are getting paid to run it so they can take it all on and be liable for any entry and transcription errors. I'm confident I can write my info down on a piece of paper and supply it to the local arms office for them to do with it what they need, and it will take me a lot less time I suspect that fighting with my crap internet connection in the wops. It's OK for sending emails and bidbud but even trademe crashes sometimes. I am not really into streaming TV as it crashes so often you sometimes can't even start watching!

I think you overestimate the polices budget. They still use self signed certificates on their mail servers.

Look to the UK for the next stage, which will be requiring Police sign off for purchases, along with arbitrarily assigned ammo allowances and all manner of unnecessary and intrusive b.s.

This is by no means the end game.

    That's an interesting suggestion.

    I load my own ammunition.
I don't have to register cases, primers, powder, projectiles.
I don't have to register what I build for my own use.
I have enough components to build several thousand rounds, several times over.

So will they file the piece of paper, just in case they have to prove, in court, you are dyslexic?
I have trouble with transposing phone numbers and letters?

In the UK there is a possession limit, and while you are allowed any amount of components, once they are assembled the limit applies.
Have a look at the Stalking Directory website, with particular attention to the legal section.
Then try and tell me the UK import cops aren't trying to bring that shit here.

I knew a dyslexic once, Insomniac and an agnostic: Used to lie in bed awake all night, wonder whether there really is a dog

I guess the idea is to stock up to the max now while you still can?
