Boaraxa, you are being very kind. Firing a .308 so it lodges in a TV, through car windows... not as if he was shooting high, targeting their chimney. And the poor family hiding in the footwell of the car. This could have ended very badly. Again, like at Aramoana, someone heard threats and this time did not appear to have taken them to the cops.
Quote: As the police subsequently discovered, two weeks before the incident he had told his boss that he was having thoughts of aiming his rifle at the family he was in dispute with and firing on them.
Quote: ...he later told the police he "hated" the family and "I just wanted to scare them".
I'm surprised he did not get done for threatening to kill - does that btw have to be verbal or in writing @systolic? Or will deliberately frightening someone by firing at them be enough substance for that charge?
Quote: Judge Kim Saunders said she hoped Stubbings could imagine what he put his victims through with his actions, which were calculated and pre-meditated and fuelled by alcohol. "There was a reason that explains your conduct. It does not excuse it."
Judge says that alcohol is no excuse, but an explanation... and here, 7 month's home detention. Sorry, Ma'am, it appears to me that, before YOU alcohol IS an excuse. As for "emotional harm", this was physical harm, I would not be surprised if the poor mother is now infertile from the stress and for what he put the kids through, in the UK he would now be on a Child Offender's Register.
In court on Wednesday, the mother of the family Stubbings shot at told of how they had to relocate and change jobs following the incident.
Her children were still jumpy whenever they heard loud noises and her 11-year-old son could not go to the toilet or shower alone out of fear.
She had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
"I struggle to sleep and to this day when I close my eyes I still hear the screams of my children that night.
"I am truly thankful I still have my children but feel that it is just sheer luck and truly believe Dwayne intended to kill ... and think it was only his drinking that made his aim off."

Cripes there are some nut bars out there, surely he should be up for attempted murder at the least, anyone of those random bullets could have killed someone. The judge needs a rocket that sentence is pathetic and is only a slap on the wrist. No wonder these types keep doing shit like this. Lets hope the police do cancel his Firearms License for good.
The man is an idiot and yes his family deserve to suffer as it is a Mans duty to serve and protect his family and he failed by being an idiot and firing a gun at some people he did not like.
Actions have consequences
Judges, do not live in any kind of reality world as a rule, until something occurs that personally affects them, after that, actual justice begins to be a thing in their courtroom. When I was a young fella down south, drunk driving didn't really get you much drama in court, until the day a sitting magistrate had his daughter killed by a drunk driver, lawyers would try to move heaven and earth to get you off his list if you were on it.
@257weatherby
WHERE did you get that Avatar pic??? (<:

@Cordite , I can see it now if he did kill someone inside the house ...its got manslaughter written all over it you no as hes just firing into the house not meaning to actually hit anyone...was just reading between the lines id imagine most lawyers would put a spin on it like that , look at the other crazy stuff lawyers are calling manslaughter , wont forget a case over carterton way 3 people tied a bloke to a chair doused him in petrol then danced around him flicking there lighters , burnt alive , they didn't get done for murder.
pretty unjust the family that got shot at quit there jobs and left mean while the scumbag gets to keep his job and house
The Green party putting the CON in conservation since 2017
I want to know what scumbag heard him fantasizing about gunning the family down two weeks earlier... and then still employs the guy after what he did.
Sorry, something very odd is going on and the answer that makes sense of it no doubt lies in whatever it is that judge suppressed. Who slept with who etc etc
