Safes are good but are generally hard to miss. Racks are easily concealed and when done right, are hard to find.

Personally I feel my firearms are much less secure after having to put in a "safe" rather than well hidden racks. Unfortunately my hidey hole doesn't allow space for the current stable.
The law as it stands still allows racks. Don't be a cock and leave your bolt and magazine fitted when in rack on living room wall though.
I had my FAL inspection this week, I have a well hidden/secured gun rack and the AO was fine with it. No issues at all.
Afterwards I specifically asked him about the preference between a well hidden/secured rack and a safe and he was totally fine with the rack.
