I throw some silica beads in when we get them from work in packaging for the moisture protection.

When I bought it the guy at the shop said take the back off and tighten all the screws in behind..as if something comes loose I. The back assembly you will never open it u less you cut it open. I did what he said .seemed ok
Actually checking screws inside the door is probably a good idea. When I first tried thr door lock I could retract the key after unlocking. Now however when unlocked the lock holds the key firmly and no amount of wiggling allows it to come free. I think I'll do as you suggest. Thanks for your post on that.

Well, took the door panel off yesterday and had a look inside. All the small bolts were nylock types that all felt quite snug so no additional tightening required. Meant to take a pic to post here, but bloody forgot...!! Anyway, felt reassured for having done it. Still couldn't get the key to come free from the unlocked door so have to live with that I guess.

I'm not familiar with the type of security cabinet, or its locking mechanism, that you have.
I can say though that one of the ones I have uses a "captive key" system in which you can not remove the key unless the latch is actually locked, which ensures that you can not walk away from the cabinet with your key/s leaving it unlocked. Not an unreasonable "feature".
Finnwolf and Eat Meater like this.

The safe I just sold was the same, I thought it was made that way on purpose

Yep, the way you guys explain it I can see the logic in that feature but I still wish I could extract the key. The safe is positioned into a corner and I cannot open the door to full extent with the rather long protruding key hitting the adjacent wall which also stops the door from quite fully opening. I can live with it but as a potential plan B am thinking I might visit my mechanical mate with welding gear and ask if he can chop a bit of length off the key and reattach the head. Might be the way around this.
