growing up in the troubles in Northern Ireland there was an incident in a town near me. Terrorists attacked an off duty part-time policeman who was a postie. They waited till he went to put the post in the mailbox of the front door of a home they were waiting in as ambush. They opened the door as he bent forward to put the post in and shot at him. He caught movement and moved just as they fired a shottie through the door. It clipped his shoulder and he went down, drawing his legally held Ruger 357mag security six. He emptied the chamber on a fleeing gunman hitting him in the ass as the guy ran through the house. The army cordoned off the housing estate and did a house to house search. In one home there was a smell of burning in the back yard, so they broke down the door only to find 2 guys sitting watching telly in clothes too small for them. Outside was a pile of burning clothes. One of the guys had a wound in his ass, which he'd stuffed tampons into to stop the bleeding.

It must have hurt.

the detective reported that there was A NIL chance of prosecution.
